The Earl of Wessex has visited the National Youth Theatre to watch the company rehearse a selection of scenes from plays commissioned by the arts charity in the last 50 years.
As Patron of the National Youth Theatre The Earl of Wessex visited the National Youth Theatre on Holloway Road in London today to watch the 2017 NYT REP Company in rehearsal.
The National Youth Theatre is a leading youth arts charity which aims to inspire young people about the importance of live theatre by giving them free and affordable opportunities on stage and backstage.
Since 1956, the charity has worked with over 150,000 young people and reached an audience of over 2 billion in performances in theatres, stadiums and festivals across the country.
Oscar winning actress Dame Helen Mirren who joined the National Youth Theatre said the arts charity 'was my way in [to acting] because we didn't’t have money to send me to drama school.'
NYT has helped forge the career of many actors across the UK. Other notable Alumni includes Daniel Craig, Sir Daniel Day-Lewis, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Colin Firth and Rosamund Pike amongst many others.
After meeting sponsors and supports of the NYT REP Company, The Earl watched a rehearsal with Director Natasha Nixon – the company is working on a selection of sort scenes from plays originally commissioned by the National Youth Theatre.
